Welcome to ID Tech’s digest of identity industry news. Here’s what you need to know about the world of digital identity and biometrics today:
Iraq Completes Biometric Voter Registration as November Election Nears

Iraq has concluded its national biometric voter registration campaign ahead of the November 11, 2025 parliamentary elections, enrolling 2.15 million new voters and bringing the total to a record 21.4 million. The biometric system includes fingerprint-based ID cards and facial recognition for polling day identity verification. Despite the milestone, around 8 million eligible voters remain unregistered, with notable gaps in the Kurdistan Region. IHEC has upgraded equipment following failures in the 2024 regional elections and is training staff to ensure system reliability. UNAMI will provide international oversight throughout the election process.
Minop Cloud Redesigns Biometric Attendance Platform Amid Growing Industry Demand
Minop Cloud has rolled out a redesigned interface for its biometric time and attendance platform, improving speed, usability, and workflow for HR managers and employees. The update features a cleaner layout, simplified navigation, and faster dashboard load times—reduced by over 50 percent. The platform supports real-time attendance APIs and streamlined access to payroll and compliance tools, with improved consistency across mobile and desktop. The launch comes amid rising demand for biometric HR tech in sectors like healthcare and manufacturing, and follows increased regulatory scrutiny of workplace biometrics under laws such as India’s DPDP Act and the EU’s GDPR.
India to Require Aadhaar Authentication for All New PAN Cards from July 2025
Starting July 1, 2025, Aadhaar authentication will become mandatory for all new Permanent Account Number (PAN) applications in India, eliminating other ID options. Applicants must complete Aadhaar e-KYC via OTP or biometric match. The move aims to reduce duplicate PANs, streamline processing, and further integrate Aadhaar into India’s digital identity infrastructure. Existing PAN holders remain subject to prior linkage deadlines, with special rules for those who applied using Aadhaar enrolment IDs. Exceptions for residents without Aadhaar have yet to be clarified.
Facial Recognition Leads to Three Arrests in London as UK Surveillance Expands
The Metropolitan Police arrested three individuals in Ealing, West London last week using mobile live facial recognition (LFR) technology, scanning faces against a database of wanted suspects. The arrests highlight the growing use of biometric surveillance in UK policing, with over 4.7 million faces scanned and more than 500 arrests made via LFR alerts in 2024. Despite concerns about legality, bias, and oversight, the UK government continues to invest heavily in LFR, including £55 million in funding and upcoming fixed-camera trials in Croydon. Ethical scrutiny is mounting as deployments expand nationwide without a clear legal framework.
Reddit Weighs World ID Iris Scans to Fight Bots, Stirring Privacy Debate
Reddit is in early talks to integrate Worldcoin’s World ID system, potentially allowing users to verify their humanity via iris scans to combat bots and AI-generated spam. The proposed system would be optional and privacy-focused, storing no raw biometric data and assigning users a unique encrypted ID via the Orb device. While no deal is finalized, the move reflects growing interest in proof-of-personhood tools amid rising AI content risks. Privacy concerns persist, with global regulators scrutinizing Worldcoin’s practices and Reddit users voicing backlash over biometric verification.
Sumsub Integrates Fingerprint’s Device Intelligence to Strengthen Fraud Detection
Sumsub has integrated Fingerprint’s Device Intelligence into its fraud prevention platform to enhance real-time detection of post-onboarding fraud across sectors like iGaming, crypto, and fintech. The system assigns a unique VisitorID to each session using over 100 browser and network signals—without collecting PII—allowing detection of tools like VPNs and remote access. Sumsub reports that 76 percent of fraud occurs after onboarding. The update also includes an AI assistant for case management and remains GDPR- and SOC 2-compliant.
UK Police Science Report Flags Seven Emerging Technologies Set to Redefine Law Enforcement
A new UK government report identifies seven emerging technologies poised to reshape policing over the next 15 years, including biometric identity systems, AI decision-support tools, cross-domain data integration platforms, advanced surveillance networks, cybersecurity and digital forensics, immersive training environments, and autonomous systems like drones and robotics. Published by the Office of the Police Chief Scientific Adviser, the PESTT report stresses the need for ethical design, governance, and officer training. It calls for sustained investment and international collaboration to ensure responsible adoption amid rising privacy concerns and evolving regulatory frameworks for AI and biometric technologies.
