Sainsbury’s Trials Facial Recognition in Stores

Sainsbury’s has begun an eight-week trial of live facial recognition at its Sydenham (London) and Oldfield Park (Bath) stores, with the possibility of national expansion across its 1,400-store network. The system, supplied by Facewatch, scans entrants against a database of repeat offenders and deletes unmatched images immediately. The rollout comes amid record shoplifting levels, with over half a million offences recorded last year. Wrocław Airport Launches Biometric Passport Service

Wrocław Airport has opened Poland’s first on-site biometric passport issuance point. Applicants can submit documentation, have photos and fingerprints taken, and collect passports within about seven business days. The facility is located in the public terminal and operates weekdays. Previously, only temporary passports were available at select airports; this marks the first full-service biometric passport office. Keyo Appoints Rudy Dajie as CEO

Palm biometrics company Keyo has named Rudy Dajie as CEO, succeeding co-founder Jaxon Klein. Dajie previously led Apothecare Pharmacy in Massachusetts, bringing experience in scaling regulated businesses. Keyo’s April 2025 palm scanner update cut device size by half and achieved industry-leading error rates. Alberta Launches Mobile Health Card via Alberta Wallet

Alberta has introduced Canada’s first mobile health card through the new Alberta Wallet app, launched August 29, 2025. Residents aged 14 and older with verified Alberta.ca and MyHealth Records accounts can access the service on iOS, Android, or web. Dependents’ cards can also be added. Paper cards remain valid, but the mobile version offers stronger durability and displays credentials via a secure QR code. Fiji Police Draft Act Proposes DNA and Biometric Vetting

A draft of Fiji’s revised Police Act would require recruits to undergo DNA testing, psychological evaluations, and biometric checks as part of the application process. Clause 21 authorizes the Commissioner to collect fingerprints and other biometric data deemed appropriate. The draft includes safeguards mandating destruction of samples and data if candidates are not recruited.
