Wrocław Airport has become the first airport in Poland to host a full biometric passport issuance service, marking a major development in the country’s travel infrastructure. The facility allows citizens to apply for passports directly at the airport, with biometric data collected on-site and completed documents ready within about seven business days.
How the Service Works
The new passport point enables applicants to submit required documentation, have their photograph and fingerprints taken, and collect their biometric passports once they are processed. Unlike temporary passports – which have been available at airports such as Warsaw, Kraków, Katowice, and Gdańsk – this is the first facility to offer full biometric passport issuance at an airport location. The office is operated by the Ministry of Interior and Administration and is open on weekdays from approximately 07:30 to 15:30. It is located in the public terminal area next to the airport information desk, making it accessible to both travelers and local residents.
Officials note that applications are processed off-site by government authorities, but passports can be collected at the Wrocław Airport office, typically within seven business days. This provides greater convenience for travelers who may otherwise have to visit separate passport offices elsewhere in the city.
A Broader Travel Modernization Trend
Airport officials described the initiative as an important milestone in improving services for Polish citizens, emphasizing both traveler convenience and secure identity management.
The launch reflects a broader European trend toward biometric solutions at airports and border crossings. Many airports across the continent now incorporate biometric verification into check-in and border control processes, while governments are expanding access to biometric travel documents. The European Union’s upcoming Entry/Exit System, scheduled for full implementation in spring 2026, is expected to make biometric identification a routine part of travel for non-EU citizens entering the Schengen Area.
