ID Tech Digest – May 13, 2026

May 13, 2026

Welcome to ID Tech’s digest of identity industry news. Here’s what you need to know about the world of digital identity and biometrics today:

Australia Commits $654.3M to Expand National Digital ID System

The Australian government has committed $654.3 million over the next four years to significantly expand its national digital identity ecosystem. The funding is aimed at increasing the system’s capacity to verify identities across more government and private sector services, while also strengthening privacy and security frameworks. This investment is a cornerstone of Australia’s digital economy strategy, intended to reduce reliance on physical documents and streamline online transactions through a unified, high-assurance digital credential.

Facia Launches DeepLiveness to Combat Deepfake Injection Attacks

Facia has launched DeepLiveness, a solution that combines 3D liveness detection and deepfake detection into a single check. The technology is designed to identify sophisticated injection attacks where fraudsters attempt to bypass biometric sensors by feeding AI-generated video into the stream. By analyzing both physical depth cues and the digital artifacts left by generative AI, DeepLiveness provides a multi-layered defense intended for high-stakes environments like financial onboarding and remote identity proofing.

Mitek Brings MiVIP Platform to FICO Marketplace

Mitek has entered into a strategic partnership with FICO to bring its MiVIP (Mitek Verified Identity Platform) to the FICO Platform Marketplace. This integration allows FICO clients to easily embed Mitek’s biometric and document verification capabilities into their existing risk management and credit decisioning workflows. The collaboration focuses on helping financial institutions balance fraud prevention with user experience, providing a seamless identity layer for complex digital onboarding journeys.

Prove Joins World Economic Forum’s Unicorn Innovator Community

Identity verification leader Prove has been selected for the World Economic Forum’s Unicorn Innovator Community. This community brings together private companies valued at over $1 billion that are pioneering solutions to global challenges. Prove was recognized for its mobile-centric approach to digital identity, which utilizes cryptographic signals from phone networks to verify identities instantly, reducing the global reliance on static and vulnerable personal data.

Neurotechnology Launches MegaMatcher Voter Management System

Neurotechnology has launched the MegaMatcher Voter Management System, a comprehensive solution for managing the entire electoral lifecycle. The platform integrates multimodal biometrics—including face, fingerprint, and iris recognition—to ensure unique voter registration and prevent double-voting. The system is designed to be highly scalable and adaptable to various national regulations, providing election commissions with the tools needed for secure voter enrollment, data deduplication, and polling station authentication.

Reveal Technology’s Identifi System Fields Across SOCOM

Reveal Technology’s Identifi handheld biometric system has begun fielding across several U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM) components. The lightweight, ruggedized device allows operators in tactical environments to quickly capture and match biometric data against watchlists. By integrating edge processing with advanced identity matching algorithms, the system provides real-time situational awareness and threat detection capabilities to elite military units operating in disconnected or austere locations.

Romania Partners with Mastercard for National EUDI Wallet

Romania has signed a five-year digital partnership with Mastercard Europe to build its national EUDI (European Digital Identity) Wallet. The collaboration will focus on developing a secure, interoperable platform that allows Romanian citizens to store and share digital versions of their ID cards, driver’s licenses, and professional credentials. The project is a key step toward meeting the EU’s eIDAS 2.0 requirements, ensuring that Romanian digital identities are recognized and usable across all European member states.

Aware’s Intelligent Liveness Records Zero Bypasses in BixeLab Evaluation

Aware, Inc. announced that its Intelligent Liveness technology recorded zero successful injection attack bypasses during a rigorous BixeLab evaluation. The testing, conducted according to the CEN/TS 18099 standard, specifically targeted the system’s ability to detect and block synthetic video and hardware-in-the-middle attacks. These results validate Aware’s “passive-first” approach to liveness detection, demonstrating high levels of security against advanced spoofing techniques without adding friction to the user’s authentication journey.
