World Economic Forum Pushes for Next-Gen Digital Public Infrastructure with New Initiative

The World Economic Forum (WEF) has launched the Connected Future Initiative, a global program focused on advancing Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) to support emerging technologies like biometrics, AI, XR, and quantum computing. Led by WEF’s Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the initiative brings together over 200 organizations, including Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and Hitachi, to promote international standards, public-private collaboration, and ethical frameworks for DPI. Key priorities include strengthening digital identity, payments, and secure data exchange systems while addressing cybersecurity, privacy, and equitable technology access challenges worldwide.

Incognia Launches New Anti-fraud Digital ID Platform

Incognia has launched Incognia ID, a digital identity platform that uses device intelligence and location behavior analysis to create persistent user profiles for fraud prevention, even across device resets and tampering. The company reports a 17-fold improvement in accuracy over facial recognition systems and highlights compliance with GDPR and CCPA regulations. Built on signals like GPS, WiFi, and Bluetooth, the solution aims to minimize account takeover risks and streamline authentication, particularly for financial services. Incognia’s expansion follows its SOC 2 Type II certification and positions it against competitors like BioCatch and GeoComply.

Punjab Adds Biometric ID Checks to Student Laptop Distribution Program

The Punjab government has made biometric thumbprint verification mandatory for students applying to its 2024–25 free laptop program, requiring eligible public sector students to confirm their identity through NADRA before receiving one of approximately 110,000 devices. Students must verify in person at NADRA e-Sahulat centers or designated institutional sites and meet academic and enrollment criteria. The initiative aims to prevent fraud and streamline distribution, while NADRA’s infrastructure has been confirmed ready to handle the scale. Privacy concerns around biometric data use continue to be raised as Pakistan expands digital identity systems.

Armenia Partners with IDEMIA to Launch National Biometric ID System by 2026

Armenia has selected IDEMIA and A.C.I. Technology to develop a new national biometric identification system, with rollout beginning in March 2026 and full deployment targeted for the second half of the year. The project includes new biometric passports and ID cards aligned with European standards, expanded enrollment centers nationwide, and modernized infrastructure to address previous system deficiencies. Implemented through local entity HAYPASS CJSC under an 11-year public-private partnership, the upgrade aims to improve accessibility, support e-services, and advance Armenia’s visa liberalization efforts.

Macau to Launch Facial Recognition Border Crossing at Hengqin in 2025

Macau’s Hengqin border checkpoint will introduce facial recognition technology for document-free crossings starting in October 2025, enabling eligible travelers to clear customs using facial or fingerprint biometrics instead of physical IDs. The system, part of broader Greater Bay Area modernization efforts, requires pre-registration and targets residents of Macau, Hong Kong, and mainland China aged 14 or older. Authorities plan to expand biometric options and emphasize data protection measures, while travelers must still carry ID documents for other services. The upgrade aims to improve efficiency at Macau’s third-busiest checkpoint amid rising cross-border traffic.

Mantra Softech Expands Iris Recognition License Deal with Fingerprints AB

Mantra Softech has renewed and expanded its licensing agreement with Fingerprint Cards to integrate iris recognition technology into a broader range of products across sectors such as banking, healthcare, national ID programs, and border control. Building on their original 2021 partnership, the expansion supports Mantra’s growing biometric portfolio, which includes a patented anti-spoofing optical fingerprint scanner. For Fingerprints, the deal strengthens its strategic presence in India’s fast-growing biometric market. The move reflects rising global demand for contactless, multi-modal authentication solutions, particularly across the Asia-Pacific region.

Ethiopia Launches Mesob Digital Portal to Unify Government Services

Ethiopia has launched a pilot for Mesob, a digital platform integrating government e-services with the national Fayda digital ID system. The portal currently connects 41 services across 12 agencies, enabling citizens to access services such as driver’s license applications, immigration, and tax filings using a single Fayda credential. Mesob supports Ethiopia’s 2025–2030 digital strategy, which positions digital ID as the foundation for public and private service access. Challenges including rural internet access and digital literacy persist, but security and consent frameworks are being prioritized to build public trust as the platform expands.

RecFaces Id-Gate Biometric System Achieves Genetec Security Certification

RecFaces has received certification for integrating its Id-Gate biometric access control solution with Genetec Security Center, allowing organizations to deploy facial recognition authentication within unified security environments. The integration supports bi-directional profile synchronization, customizable alerts, real-time monitoring, audit trails, and multifactor authentication, while maintaining compliance with international data protection standards such as GDPR. Id-Gate offers liveness detection, offline functionality, and smart reporting, and has also been integrated with platforms from LenelS2, Milestone, and Honeywell, reflecting growing enterprise demand for interoperable biometric security systems.

Anetac Launches Unified Platform to Manage Human and Machine Identity Security

Anetac has launched Human Link Pro, a new module for its Identity Vulnerability Management Platform that provides real-time monitoring and detection of vulnerabilities across both human and non-human identities. Featuring AI-powered Access Chains technology, the platform maps indirect access paths, dormant accounts, and privilege escalation risks, helping organizations address threats like compromised credentials and persistent third-party access. Targeted sectors include financial services, retail, healthcare, and critical infrastructure, with Human Link Pro positioned as a real-time, continuous analysis solution distinct from competitors such as Unosecur and Entro Security.
