Indian biometrics company Mantra Softech has renewed and expanded its licensing agreement with Fingerprint Cards (“Fingerprints”) to integrate iris recognition technology into a broader range of products and address new markets. The announcement builds upon a partnership originally initiated in 2021 when Mantra first licensed Fingerprints’ contactless iris recognition solution.
The expanded agreement enables Mantra to deploy Fingerprints’ iris recognition technology across a range of sectors, including public distribution systems, banking, SIM card distribution, healthcare, national ID programs like Aadhaar and MOSIP, and border control solutions. The application areas reflect a broader trend toward the integration of advanced biometrics into critical government and commercial systems, particularly in high-volume markets like India and the Asia-Pacific region.
The renewal comes as Mantra Softech continues to strengthen its portfolio in the biometric sector. In 2023, the company received a patent approval for an optical fingerprint scanner featuring advanced anti-spoofing technology. The patented solution incorporates a Zero Path Difference Michelson interferometer and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) to detect liveness and improve security, differentiating Mantra’s products in an increasingly competitive market.
Mantra has also been active in promoting biometric adoption across diverse sectors, including educational institutions, where biometric attendance tracking systems are gaining popularity. The company holds certifications from Indian authorities, reinforcing its position as a key supplier for national biometric initiatives.
For Fingerprints, the expanded partnership supports its strategic growth initiatives in India. The company recently announced a distribution partnership with SM Electronic Technologies in March of this year and secured a SEK 50 million licensing deal with Smart Eye AB to bring iris recognition technology to automotive applications. The moves reflect Fingerprints’ broader strategy of expanding its technology footprint across both consumer and enterprise markets.
The announcement comes amid accelerating global demand for high-security authentication technologies. The iris recognition market is expanding rapidly, particularly in Asia-Pacific, as industries adopt multi-modal and contactless biometric solutions to meet increasing security, convenience, and hygiene requirements. The expanded Mantra-Fingerprint partnership positions both companies to capitalize on this trend and contribute to the evolution of identity verification solutions worldwide.
