Fingerprint Cards Expands India Reach Through SMET Distribution Deal

Fingerprint Cards AB has announced a strategic distribution partnership with SM Electronic Technologies (SMET) in India, expanding its presence in one of the world’s fastest-growing biometric technology markets. The partnership, announced today, comes as India is experiencing rapid adoption of biometric technologies across multiple sectors.

The agreement enables SMET to distribute Fingerprints’ comprehensive portfolio of biometric solutions throughout India, including both fingerprint and iris recognition technologies. This expansion follows Fingerprints’ recent financial restructuring and builds upon its successful deployment of biometric technologies in various industries.

The timing of the partnership is particularly important, as India’s Reserve Bank is considering mandatory biometric authentication for online payments, potentially creating significant opportunities for biometric solution providers. The collaboration also aligns with India’s broader push toward digital transformation and enhanced security measures across its financial and government sectors.

“Channel strategy is key to our growth, and today’s announcement is a further proof point of how we want to grow our distribution channels with the right partners, prioritising quality over quantity,” said Adam Philpott, CEO of Fingerprints. “SMET’s strong distribution network and deep understanding of the local market will play a crucial role in driving the adoption of Fingerprints’ biometric solutions in India.”

SMET brings significant expertise to the partnership, including experience with India’s national biometric ID system, Aadhaar. Yashoranjan K V, Director of Strategy at SMET, highlighted the potential for expansion into new markets: “Together, we aim to bring advanced fingerprint and iris solutions to India’s markets. Our collaboration will also explore new opportunities and solutions to serve not just consumer and industrial markets, but also new areas like the automotive sector.”
