VSBLTY will be providing face and thermal screening technology for the new Entry Series from KIOSK Information Systems. The new devices will be built for access control, and are intended to support venues that need to enforce public health and safety protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic.
To that end, the Entry Series comes with a dual-camera array. The first camera conducts the temperature scan, while the second gauges the distance between the user and the device to prevent spoofing. The system is accurate to within 0.5° C, and will send an alert to venue operators whenever it spots someone with an elevated temperature.
It also offers facial recognition capabilities, although it will not necessarily be used to identify everyone that submits to a scan. The facial recognition algorithm will only authenticate people who have opted into the system. As a result, the Entry Series can be used to enable contactless employee check-ins, or it can be integrated into an access control system to make sure that authorized individuals are the only ones able to gain entry to restricted areas.
However, the system will not recognize guests and visitors, nor will it identify members of the public. If the device is installed at a restaurant or a retail outlet, the Entry Series will simply take temperatures to make sure that no one is running a fever, while still granting full anonymity to customers. The Entry Series does offer mask detection to ensure compliance with safety guidelines, and supports QR codes that can be used to distribute optional health surveys.
The two companies are hoping that the technology will help businesses reopen in the wake of COVID-19.
“Some organizations will continue temperature screening safety protocols as an ongoing best practice,” said KIOSK President Kim Kenney. “This platform will simplify best practices during the pandemic and beyond.”
VSBLTY partnered with Photon-X to add thermal screening capabilities to its platform in the early days of the pandemic. They later delivered their joint solution to an unnamed building and cybersecurity provider.
