Pindrop has appointed a former Amazon Web Services executive as its new Chief Technology Officer.
Collin Davis comes to the company after an almost eight-year term with AWS, where he started out as the General Manager of AppStream in 2013 and went on to oversee Alexa for Business and AWS Productivity Apps. Before that, he spent over 12 years with Symantec, starting as a software engineer in 2001 and rising through the ranks to becomes VP of Endpoint Protection.
At Pindrop, Davis will be serving in a newly created role. In announcing the appointment, the company explained that the role will entail progressing the company’s contact center solutions, including authentication and anti-fraud technologies, as well as a mandate to “define and envision [Pindrop’s] additional IoT offerings.” These responsibilities were previously in the hands of the company’s CEO, Vijay Balasubramaniyan.
The overarching focus will, of course, be on voice technology, Pindrop’s specialty. The company offers sophisticated voice recognition technology to help fight fraud in call center settings, and the tech also offers additional applications in the Internet of Things. Pindrop expanded its voice security portfolio earlier this year with its acquisition of Next Caller, banking on an ongoing rise in contact center activity in the wake of the remote work boom prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“With Collin’s relevant voice and security background, plus his clear focus as a high-energy technology leader for large, dynamic organizations, he will play a critical role in Pindrop’s next evolution,” asserted Balasubramaniyan. “Collin will execute our technical vision and grow Pindrop’s product capabilities across new industries to ensure we not only better secure the voice channel, but find new ways to use our technology to solve customer problems.”
For his part, Davis expressed his excitement about joining a voice tech pioneer at this stage in the overall evolution of the field. “Voice technology is still early, and we’re just starting to see how it will change the way humans interact with computers and other technologies,” he said. “Pindrop is at an exciting stage of its growth having established itself as the industry leader in voice security, authentication, and verification.”
