Pakistan’s National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has unveiled version 3.8.1 of its Pak ID mobile application, introducing significant upgrades that enhance digital identity management and verification processes for Pakistani citizens.Digital person icon

The latest version introduces two major features: digital ID storage, allowing users to keep a digital version of their national ID card on their mobile devices, and facial verification capabilities that provide an alternative authentication method, particularly beneficial for elderly citizens or those with fingerprint recognition difficulties.

The update arrives after NADRA’s recent expansion of biometric services and also follows the implementation of the Digital Nation Pakistan Act 2024, which established a framework for modernizing the country’s digital infrastructure.

The facial verification feature represents a significant advancement in NADRA’s biometric capabilities, complementing the organization’s broader initiative to expand biometric verification methods across various government services. This addition provides users with a more flexible approach to identity verification, especially in situations where traditional fingerprint scanning may be challenging.

The digital ID storage functionality marks another step in Pakistan’s transition toward digital identification systems, following the recent launch of the country’s first digital national ID card. This feature enables citizens to present their identification digitally for various transactions and services, reducing reliance on physical documentation.

NADRA’s latest update also streamlines the process for requesting changes to national ID cards and accessing other essential services, such as family registration certificates, through the mobile platform. These improvements align with the organization’s ongoing efforts to enhance accessibility and security in digital identity management.
