New Partnership Featuring TECH5, ZKTeco to Combine Decentralized ID With Biometric Physical Access

A four-way collaboration between PassiveBolt, PDQ Manufacturing, TECH5, and ZKTeco aims to let businesses leverage biometrics and decentralized identity technology for access control.

PDQ and ZKTeco will provide the hardware, in the form of door locks and biometric readers, respectively. PassiveBolt will provide decentralized identity technology, while TECH5 brings to the table its T5-Cryptograph solution, which is designed to encode face or fingerprint biometrics data into a printable credential.

The companies joint solution will support both physical and digital access control, and will enable end users to store and manage their own identity data. They say the solution will also be designed for compliance with privacy laws including the California Consumer Protection Act and Illinois’s notoriously strict Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA).

“A decentralized digital identity verified biometrically will become key for access control, especially when it uses revocable biometrics and verification on edge,” explained TECH5 co-founder, CTO, and Chairman Rahul Parthe. “We believe that this partnership and our innovative approach will provide the access control market with a unique and highly effective solution that is convenient and secure for both – management of buildings and users.”

TECH5, for its part, has clearly established its biometrics expertise in the form of not only face and fingerprint offerings, but also iris recognition technology — all of which were recently consolidated into the company’s newly announced, overarching “T5-OmniMatch platform.

Likewise, ZKTeco is a longstanding access control specialist with biometric solutions of its own, including its SpeedFace+ facial recognition solution. The President of the company’s US division, Manish Dalal, spoke to FindBiometrics about biometric identity technology at this year’s ISC West event in Las Vegas.

The companies’ new joint solution is expected to hit the commercial market later this year, with the firms planning to pitch it to organizations in a number of sectors including hospitality, healthcare, retail, offices, and the government sector.
