The Central Minnesota Credit Union (CMCU) has installed a biometric ATM at its new Sartell location, alongside new digital kiosks to facilitate an enhanced customer experience.
As the local outlet Newsleaders reports, iris recognition will give CMCU customers a safe way to access their accounts even when they don’t have their debit card on hand. Multiple authentication options are supported, including allowing users to log in with a driver’s license scan and a password or with the more traditional debit card and PIN option.
The Sartell branch opened in June, and is currently the only CMCU location with the new kiosks. The CMCU network consists of 21 individual branches spread throughout the state of Minnesota.
“The technology allows us to serve members the way they want to be served,” said Branch Manager Tami Mesker. “Members have the options of self-service, assisted service or full service.”
The report did not indicate who provided the iris recognition technology for CMCU. In any case, Credit Unions have generally displayed a growing interest in biometric technology in the past few years. CULedger recently completed a trial of a MyCUID credential that takes advantage of the biometric readers on modern mobile devices, while Pennsylvania’s Merck Sharp & Dohme Federal Credit Union has deployed palm vein recognition technology from Fiserv to verify the identities of customers and employees.
