CLEAR is expanding its airport footprint in South Florida. The company has announced that it is opening three expedited security lanes at Palm Beach International Airport (PBI), supplementing the lanes that are already in place at the international airports in Miami, Orlando, and Fort Lauderdale.
The CLEAR expedited screening system uses iris recognition to verify the identities of registered CLEAR Plus travelers. CLEAR Plus is a subscription service that costs $15 per month, though members can add an additional adult to their account for $60 for a full year.
A CLEAR agent will take passengers directly to the TSA’s physical security checkpoint once they have completed their iris recognition scan at one of CLEAR’s dedicated lanes. The system allows those passengers to bypass the traditional screening process on the way to security, and negates the need to show a driver’s license for identity verification.
According to CLEAR, the three PBI lanes will create more than 30 new jobs and contribute $1.9 million to the airport and the local Palm Beach County economy. The iris recognition program is now available at 39 airports across the country, a tally that includes eight of the top 10 destinations from PBI itself. As a result, those departing from and returning to Palm Beach can take advantage of the service on both legs of their trip.
“We’ve been committed to Florida since day one with our first airport launch, and now we are thrilled to partner with Palm Beach County to help bring this experience to local residents, travelers and visitors,” said CLEAR CEO Caryn Seidman-Becker.
“PBI is known for an easy, convenient traveling experience and bringing CLEAR lanes with touchless technology provides our travelers additional peace of mind as they depart the Palm Beaches,” added Palm Beach County Department of Airports Director Laura Beebe.
CLEAR introduced biometric screening lanes at Oakland International Airport in April, and then added more lanes to its Boston program earlier this month. Denver and Nashville are some of the other airports that currently offer the CLEAR Plus screening service.
