Ukrainian Experts Earn Certification in Biometric Chip Authentication

Four forensic experts in Ukraine have been certified in biometric chip authentication after completing an OSCE- and IDCentre-led training in Eindhoven. The program, held September 15–18, 2025, focused on cryptography fundamentals, digital authentication, and practical use of smart card readers. Chicago Cubs Face Biometric Privacy Lawsuit Over Facial Recognition

The Chicago Cubs are facing a proposed class action lawsuit alleging that Wrigley Field used facial recognition systems to scan fans without consent, in violation of Illinois’ Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA). Filed September 15, 2025, the complaint names the Cubs, Blue Star Security, and Protos Security, claiming “millions of fans” were affected. BIPA requires written notice and signed consent before collecting biometric identifiers, with statutory damages of $1,000 to $5,000 per violation.

iProov Uncovers Sophisticated iOS Video Injection Tool

iProov threat researchers identified an advanced iOS video injection tool that appears to originate in China. Operating on jailbroken iOS 15+ devices, it connects compromised phones to servers that feed synthetic video directly into verification apps, bypassing cameras. The discovery highlights risks for systems reliant on basic liveness detection. iProov recommends multi-layered defenses including trusted record checks, synthetic media detection, and managed response.

Vietnam Expands VNeID Biometric Check-In at Airports

Vietnamese airports are increasing adoption of VNeID biometric check-in, though usage remains below government targets. Since August 2025, passengers have been able to use facial scans and digital IDs at check-in counters, security, and boarding gates, with notable uptake at boarding gates. From December 1, 2025, biometric and digital ID verification will be mandatory for most domestic travelers, with exceptions for passengers requiring special assistance or checked baggage.

AirTera Launches DepartureCheck Biometric System

AirTera has introduced DepartureCheck, a biometric and document verification system for airports and airlines. The platform enables real-time face-to-ID matching, flags fraudulent documents, and validates passenger manifests. Built to integrate with aviation management software such as FL3XX, DepartureCheck meets NIST SP 800-53, 800-63, and SOC2 standards. AirTera will showcase the system at NBAA BACE 2025 in Las Vegas.

Civil Society Groups Challenge Mexico’s Biometric CURP Reforms

Mexican lawmakers approved reforms requiring biometric data collection for the national CURP ID, including fingerprints, iris scans, and photos. Courts in Yucatán, Querétaro, and Mexico City have issued injunctions suspending enforcement, citing privacy risks. Rights groups including R3D and Article 19 warn the centralized identity platform could enable surveillance and data misuse. The reforms follow Mexico’s failed biometric SIM registry and are set to become mandatory for many services by February 2026.
