The EU, UK, Spain, and Gibraltar have reached a political agreement in principle to eliminate land border checks between Gibraltar and Spain, paving the way for Gibraltar to join the Schengen area and establish a new customs union framework. The deal preserves UK sovereignty while enabling shared border control, with Spanish officials conducting Schengen checks at Gibraltar’s airport and seaport. A formal treaty is still required.

Ireland’s Data Regulator Fines Government Department Over Unlawful Biometric Data Collection

Ireland’s Data Protection Commission has fined the Department of Social Protection €550,000 for unlawfully processing biometric data under its SAFE 2 registration program tied to the Public Services Card. The DPC found the department failed to demonstrate a clear legal basis for collecting facial biometric data, affecting around 70 percent of the population. T-Mobile to Deploy CLEAR’s Biometric Platform for Employee Authentication

T-Mobile is adopting CLEAR’s CLEAR1 biometric platform to replace employee passwords with facial recognition as part of an enterprise-wide shift to identity-first security. Employees will verify their identity via selfie after registering with a government-issued ID, eliminating the need for passwords or PINs. The rollout follows T-Mobile’s prior YubiKey deployment and addresses rising threats such as SIM swap attacks and data breaches. While some employees have raised privacy concerns, CLEAR confirms that biometric data can be deleted on request and will not be sold or repurposed. Full deployment is expected by the end of 2025.

Keyless Named a Luminary in Acuity’s Deepfake Identity Report

Keyless has been named a Luminary in Acuity Market Intelligence’s latest Deepfake and Synthetic Identity Prism Report, recognized for its privacy-preserving biometric authentication and advanced liveness detection. The company’s Zero-Knowledge Biometrics system, built on secure multiparty computation and Shamir’s Secret Sharing, prevents biometric template exposure even in the event of a breach. Evaluated alongside 130 vendors, Keyless stood out for defending against synthetic identity fraud. This marks its second consecutive Luminary designation. Keyless has also expanded its presence via integration with Temenos Exchange and participation in DIACC, reinforcing its role in cross-border digital identity standards.
