UK-based startup Orchestrating Identity has earned dual certification from the Kantara Initiative under the UK’s Digital Identity and Attributes Trust Framework (DIATF). The company is now formally recognized as both an Identity Service Provider (IDSP) and an Orchestration Service Provider (OSP), placing it among a small group of six organizations holding both certifications nationwide.![]()
Certified for Flexibility and Interoperability
Orchestrating Identity is currently the only company in the UK offering an open-access orchestration platform that remains agnostic to any particular IDSP. This flexibility enables organizations to integrate digital identity services without locking into a single provider, reducing risks and fostering interoperability across systems.
The company’s platform is designed to support secure and scalable identity verification, aligning with emerging international standards. With the UK’s Data (Use and Access) Bill expected to soon become law, formalizing the DIATF, the dual certification strengthens Orchestrating Identity’s standing in a regulatory environment that increasingly emphasizes verifiability and compliance.
“The dual certification under the UK’s Trust Framework as both an Identity Service Provider (IDSP) and Orchestration Service Provider (OSP) allow us to bring internationally recognised, government-grade identity technologies to the commercial market through our partnership with Idemia Smart Identity,” said David Rennie, Strategic Advisor at Orchestrating Identity.
Amid Policy Shifts and a Fragile Digital Identity Landscape
The milestone arrives during a critical moment for the UK’s digital identity ecosystem. In May, the government’s flagship One Login system lost its primary security certification under the same trust framework, due to compliance issues with its biometric authentication provider. That development highlighted the importance of strong certification procedures and robust identity service design.
As the UK prepares to roll out a national digital wallet and navigate new EU identity regulations affecting travelers and service providers, confidence in interoperable and standards-aligned platforms is becoming essential. Orchestrating Identity’s orchestration model is intended to help avoid single points of failure while enabling consistent, trusted identity verification across borders and sectors.
Kay Chopard, Executive Director of the Kantara Initiative, commented on the certification in the broader context of Kantara’s mission: “At Kantara Initiative, our goal is to drive the adoption of trusted identity services worldwide. It is our mission to give businesses and organisations the confidence that results from using identity services that have been certified against the most rigorous of standards.”
Orchestrating Identity’s Trust and Identity Orchestration (TIDO) services are designed to serve public and private sector clients alike, offering resilience, choice, and compliance as demand grows for cross-border digital trust solutions.
