IDEMIA and Honeywell are forming a strategic partnership to develop comprehensive security and management solutions for smart buildings. To that end, the two companies will combine Honeywell’s building management offerings with IDEMIA’s biometric access control technology.
IDEMIA’s biometric portfolio includes the contactless MorphoWave fingerprint scanner, as well as the VisionPass facial recognition terminal and the Augmented Vision video analytics platform. Honeywell, meanwhile, is responsible for the Pro-Watch Security Suite, the MAXPRO Cloud, and an Enterprise Buildings Integrator.
Together, the two companies are hoping to eliminate shared touchpoints and minimize the amount of physical contact needed to navigate a building. IDEMIA’s various biometric products support contactless access control, and can enable a slew of other automated features. For example, a system with computer vision capabilities could send a car when someone is standing at the elevator, or adjust the settings when a registered employee enters the conference room.
In both cases, the user would not need to press a button to achieve the desired effect. The technology can also be used for contact tracing and thermal screening, and to enforce social distancing and mask requirements during the COVID-19 pandemic.
IDEMIA’s computer vision technology can cover the interior and exterior of the building, as in the case of vehicle recognition at parking garages. The joint system will provide operators with configurable workflows that allow them to respond to alerts and security incidents in a timely and consistent manner.
“We will create an intelligent building ecosystem that better addresses our customers’ key challenges and drives desired outcomes,” said Honeywell VP, CTO, and CPO Manish Sharma. “Whether it’s a commercial office building, a hospital or an airport, we have the ability to change the way people experience and interact with buildings for the better.”
According to the two companies, the new features should make it easier for buildings to attract tenants once people return to the office. IDEMIA will work with Honeywell to develop joint product roadmaps, and will offer support for Honeywell’s Healthy Buildings initiative.
IDEMIA recently joined the Smart Physical Access Control alliance, while its MorphoWave scanners have been installed at office buildings in Australia, and at IDEMIA’s own offices in Tokyo. Arana Security has also developed an app that allows customers to use the scanner for contactless payments.
