CyberLink’s facial recognition technology will soon be part of Toyota’s vehicle inspection process thanks to a new partnership with ITOCHU Techno-Solutions. ITOCHU is an IT services provider that offers a range of technology solutions, including the Vehicle Inspection Information System that is being adopted by Toyota.
As it relates to CyberLink, ITOCHU has integrated the FaceMe facial recognition engine into the Vehicle Inspection Information System to speed up the identity verification process. The Inspection System is a form of quality control, and will use biometric identity verification to ensure that the people inspecting finished vehicles are in fact certified to do so.
According to CyberLink, the use of facial recognition will reduce authentication times, and create a safer and healthier work environment for inspectors during the pandemic. The solution is accurate enough to identify people who are wearing masks, which means that the inspectors do not need to remove hats, masks, or other safety equipment when they show up for the job. The touchless solution also creates a more streamlined workflow, insofar as the inspectors do not need to stop at a terminal to punch in.
“Due to recent COVID-19 infections, our workers must wear masks all the time,” said a Toyota Assistant Manager. “FaceMe allows us to improve productivity and concentrate on the inspection work itself. Moreover, CyberLink has also supported us in eliminating environmental problems usually encountered with facial recognition, such as bright factory lighting and dimly lit car interiors.”
ITOCHU is planning to offer its inspection identification solution to other factories in the future, and credited CyberLink for its assistance during the development of the new solution. CyberLink itself became an associate member of the FIDO Alliance earlier this year, and recently launched new FaceMe APIs to make it easier for organizations to build products with its flagship facial recognition platform.
