CLEAR and Ochsner Expand Digital, Self-Service Patient Check-In

CLEAR and Ochsner Health have partnered to deploy biometric identity verification across Ochsner’s network in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama, extending CLEAR’s healthcare footprint into one of the largest nonprofit health systems in the United States. The companies said patients will be able to complete digital check-in before arrival and then use self-service kiosks on site, with CLEAR1 used to identify them more quickly and accurately.

Since the rollout began in January 2026, more than 10,000 patients have used CLEAR1 to reset their MyOchsner account passwords, with Ochsner reporting a 93 percent success rate for CLEAR1-assisted account recovery. Ochsner operates approximately 47 hospitals and more than 370 health and urgent care centers across the Gulf South, serving around 1.6 million patients. The rollout is aimed at reducing front-desk friction while helping patients move from parking lot to point of care with fewer manual steps. CLEAR framed the expansion as part of a broader push to make healthcare access more convenient without loosening identity controls.

CLEAR1 is Kantara-certified for NIST IAL2 and AAL2, positioning it as a high-assurance option for health systems with regulatory obligations around patient identity. The announcement also gives a fresh scale marker for CLEAR’s provider business. The company said its healthcare network now spans more than 50 provider systems and 250 million linked patient records, making healthcare one of the clearer examples of how a consumer-facing identity company is extending its platform into operational workflows where patient matching, fraud prevention and throughput all matter at once.

The Ochsner move follows earlier healthcare expansion by CLEAR, including its rollout of biometric patient check-in to 150-plus Wellstar locations. It also builds on the wider scale of a platform that recently reached 38 million members across travel and related channels. At the same time, other vendors are pushing verification deeper into provider systems, including an identity verification suite within Epic Connection Hub.

For health systems, the challenge is no longer just digital registration. It is whether patient identity can be confirmed consistently enough to reduce duplicate records, mismatches and staff rework at intake, and quickly enough that pre-arrival check-in and kiosk flows reduce friction rather than adding steps. Future phases of the Ochsner rollout will add patient account creation and employee account recovery to the existing password reset and check-in workflows.
