CLEAR, the expedited biometric screening program for airports and other large venues, has been named one of CNBC’s 2019 Disruptor 50 companies.
In announcing the list, CNBC explained that it comprises private companies “whose innovations are changing the world and fueling a race between superpowers like the U.S. and China.” CLEAR came in at a ranking of 22, joining high-profile peers on the list such as Duolingo (ranked 28) and Airbnb (7).
In profiling CLEAR, CNBC notes that the organization now has 3 million members using the biometric screening program to get expedited entry to airport terminals, arenas, and stadiums. The listing also notes CLEAR’s pioneering efforts to move into the area of biometric payments and age verification, with CLEAR members able to buy things like beer at concessions stands at Seattle’s CenturyLink Field and T-Mobile Arena with just a fingerprint scan.
It’s part of a dramatic expansion beyond the expedited airport screening that was CLEAR’s initial focus, and may point the way toward further growth for the organization going forward as its platform continues to see more deployments at major sports venues. CLEAR is well on the way to becoming a household name, and its appearance on CNBC’s Disrupter 50 list certainly suggests it’s on the right track.
