“We’re excited to be working with the Mets, Aramark, and Mashgin to reimagine the concessions experience so fans get what they want quickly and easily and get back to their seats without missing any of the action on the field.” – Ed O’Brien, Head of Sports, CLEAR
CLEAR has brought its biometric naked payments technology to New York, working with Aramark and self-checkout kiosk specialist Mashgin to establish an almost fully automated concession stand experience at Citi Field, home of the New York Mets.
For baseball fans using the system, the process promises to be straightforward. First, a CLEAR membership is needed; that allows the end user’s fingerprints to be linked to their payment card information. From there, it’s just a matter of heading over to Citi Field’s Walk Thru Bru self-checkout kiosk, placing the items in the Mashgin terminal for scanning, and undergoing a quick fingerprint scan on the biometric reader. The system will then automatically charge the card on file.
Not only does this approach enable a more efficient self-checkout process, but it can also help with age verification for restricted goods like alcohol, since a CLEAR membership inherently pairs identity verification with biometric information.
For concessions stand operators, the system also promises efficiencies, with only one Aramark customer service representative required at Citi Field’s automated concession stand to help guests and enforce service policies.
The deployment comes after CLEAR initially debuted its naked payments system in Seattle last year, with the system receiving enthusiastic praise from CLEAR’s partners at the Money20/20 event in Las Vegas a few months later. And it suggests that CLEAR is making good progress in its efforts to expand the scope of its biometric screening program will beyond the passenger processing at airports that was its initial focus.
