BIO-key is helping many of its existing customers with their digital transformations. The company has revealed that nine of its clients migrated from an on-premises authentication solution to its cloud-based PortalGuard Identity-as-a-Service (IDaaS) solution in the fourth quarter of 2020.
According to BIO-key, that trend mirrors the interest in PortalGuard that the company has seen from new customers. The IDaaS offering streamlines identity and access management across a large number of critical applications, and does so without sacrificing institutional security. It is also a more flexible solution that is better suited to the needs of a remote workforce. For example, PortalGuard can provide remote employees with self-service access to essential work materials, which minimizes the administrative burden on the IT department.
That’s why PortalGuard has proven to be extremely popular with new and existing clients alike. BIO-key did not name any of the nine companies that made the switch, but the list of new PortalGuard customers includes numerous academic institutions and government agencies, up to and including a division of the US Department of Justice.
The nine companies collectively provide support for around 115,000 individual users. BIO-key still has more than 200 customers who have not made the switch, and could potentially do so in 2021 or at some point further down the line as the remote ecosystem continues to expand. Those clients represent another 1 million users, approximately speaking.
“The maturation of the cloud services market has enabled IDaaS to emerge as the preferred deployment model versus the traditional on-premises IAM solution,” said BIO-key PortalGuard President Mark Cochran. “Enhanced security and scalability, reduction in cost and complexity, along with the relatively easy deployment of IDaaS, makes it an increasingly desirable option for our customers.”
BIO-key has also delivered PortalGuard for the GATX Corporation, which is using the solution to simplify password management for its GATX Rail Europe group.
