Yates Enterprises Tech Leverages Temperature Detection, Biometrics

Chicago-based Yates Enterprises, a company that specializes in handheld and walk-through metal detectors, has announced a new line of temperature detection products focused on helping combat the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

The devices are intended to help businesses and schools when they begin to reopen following the lifting of lockdown measures that have been in place around the world for the better part of two months.

“When business is allowed to resume, it will be in a form we are not accustomed to, what will the new normal look like?” said founder and CEO Dr. William Yates. “It must include fast, efficient safeguards to protect people. Because fever is the only COVID-19 symptom that can be measured, temperature detectors are an effective way to help prevent the spread of this infectious disease.”

The products offered by Yates include a portable, infrared, non-contact thermal detector that can be mounted near a building’s entrance or integrated with existing walk-through metal detectors, doors and other access control systems.

“The heart and soul of every operation is your employees,” said Carl Mazzone, the owner of a pasta manufacturing business that had Yates’ thermal scanners installed at its production facility.

“You have to take their safety seriously and you have to give them peace of mind that your company is doing everything possible to protect them and keep them safe, [and] the temperature detector is an efficient way for us and other businesses to do this. “

Yates also offers a system that is capable of identifying a person with an elevated temperature in a group of up to 50 people using facial recognition, as well as a walk-through thermal detector that takes an individual’s temperature from roughly two inches away and can process one person per second.

Yates already counts Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, a number of bakeries, big box stores and nonproftit organizations among its clients. It also announced that it is looking to donate its devices to selected nonprofits in cities throughout the U.S.
