Vision-Box has revealed that its Orchestra Digital Identity Management Platform is being used to support the new contactless traveler experience for Emirates passengers at Dubai International Airport. The company has now installed biometric self-service kiosks at Concourse B in Terminal 3, and will soon expand the program to cover the entire Terminal.
The touchless kiosks allow Emirates passengers to register their facial biometrics when they check in for their flight. That template will then be linked to a unique One-ID Single Identification Token that allows them to move through other airport checkpoints with only a facial recognition scan. That means that they can pass through security, enter the Emirates lounge, and board their plane with only a facial recognition scan at the appropriate e-Gates.
Passengers that opt into the program will no longer need to hand their travel documents to a human agent, which will reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19 and other diseases. The technology is expected to help restore trust during the pandemic, though the project itself predates the outbreak of the coronavirus. Vision-Box is launching the program after completing a successful four-year identity verification pilot, while Emirates launched its own Biometric Path for select travelers in March of 2019.
The Vision-Box solution employs Privacy-by-Design, and is compliant with the latest data protection regulations. The Orchestra system connects to US Customs and Border Protection’s Traveler Verification Service, enabling biometric boarding for travelers heading from Dubai to destinations in the United States.
“A safe passenger experience is paramount to the industry’s revival,” said Vision-Box CEO Miguel Leitmann. “Emirates is fully equipped to offer revolutionary world class contactless experience for passengers navigating through the airport.”
The Emirates Group plans to use Vision-Box’s technology to enable contactless security for all of its companies and affiliates. AirAsia has also announced that it will be using Orchestra to help manage its own face-based passenger identification system.
