Vision-Box is teaming up with Apollocom and Amadeus to enable a fully automated passenger experience for travelers at Santa Lucia, Mexico’s new Felipe Angeles International Airport (AIFA). The airport will operate under the direction of the Mexican Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA), and was built from the ground up with an eye toward digital transformation.
In that regard, Vision-Box’s biometric technology was integrated directly into the design of the building. The new airport has 74 biometric self-boarding gates, along with 58 biometric enrollment kits and 16 pre-security gates for document verification. AIFA will also use Vison-Box’s Orchestra Platform to bring that hardware together into a comprehensive identity management system.
As it relates to the user experience, SEDENA is hoping that Vision-Box’s tech will streamline passenger processing and make airport operations more efficient. Passengers will be able to link their faces to their travel information at a self-service kiosk or a manual check-in counter, or before they get to the airport with a mobile device. The system will then generate a token that allows them to pass through airport checkpoints with only a facial recognition scan. In doing so, Vision-Box supports a contactless passenger journey that minimizes the threat of contagion during the pandemic.
“This technology project is the first step in Vision-Box’s mission to make the aviation industry more efficient,” said Vision-Box CEO Miguel Leitmann. “We are excited to contribute to this initiative for SEDENA and together deliver safe, secure, and seamless experiences to the travelers who chose to fly via Felipe Angeles International Airport.”
AIFA formally opened its doors on March 21. Vision-Box recently delivered biometric tech for screening trials in Finland and Bulgaria, while Amadeus has previously provided technology for contactless airport projects in London and Brazil. Vision-Box also partnered with Airside to enable mobile travel screening back in February of 2021.
