Vision-Box Launches Mobile Biometric Kiosk for Airports

Vision-Box has unveiled a new Seamless Assistant that is designed to give airport operators more flexibility with their biometric infrastructure. The Assistant is essentially a kiosk-on-wheels that can easily be moved from one part of the airport to another.

In practice, the Assistant functions much like any other biometric kiosk. The device has document capture capabilities that allow it to read the information in a passport, and biometric capture capabilities (with liveness detection) to ensure that the person presenting that document is in fact its proper owner.

The difference between the Assistant and a more traditional standing kiosk is that the Assistant is entirely mobile. That means that airport operators can roll it around the building and deploy it as needed, which allows them to offer automated screening services with a smaller number of devices. The Seamless Assistants can serve multiple functions at the airport, and can be used for screening at security and boarding gates, or for people looking to gain access to a lounge.

The new devices run on battery power. They also offer wireless Wi-Fi connectivity, which means that the Assistants do not need to be plugged in as they move about the airport. Vision-Box believes that the devices will help mitigate the need for manual checks, and minimize the amount of contact between travelers and staff during the pandemic.

“The Seamless Assistant is set to simplify the experience of airports, airlines, and passengers,” said Vision-Box Product Head Alessandro Minucci. “The device can be moved anywhere in the airport without any effort, permitting quick deployment at any given moment for whatever use case it might be required, such as scaling up infrastructure at peak periods.”

The Seamless Assistant supports Privacy by Design, and is fully compatible with Vision-Box’s broader Orchestra Identity Management Platform. It arrives shortly after the debut of the Seamless Kiosk, another self-service kiosk that is not mobile but can be customized for different applications thanks to its modular hardware features. Vision-Box itself has recently provided passenger screening tech for airports in New Zealand and Australia in addition to Mexico.
