Viettel’s electronic Know Your Customer (eKYC) system has achieved the ISO 30107-3 certification for facial recognition (FaceID) at level 2, making it the first and only enterprise in Vietnam to attain the accreditation.
The recognition comes from Tayllorcox, a globally acknowledged ISO certification body, affirming the system’s capability to distinguish between genuine user faces and various forms of 2D and 3D forgeries. By granting certifications like the ISO 30107-3 for biometric systems, Tayllorcox helps companies validate the security and reliability of their technologies, thereby enhancing trust and compliance in the global market.
The certification underscores the system’s robustness against biometric spoofing, ensuring enhanced security in operations such as opening accounts, issuing cards, and assessing loans. Viettel’s eKYC system underwent approximately 3,000 tests involving simulated 2D and 3D facial reconstructions and achieved a flawless error rate of 0 percent, surpassing the standard allowance of 1 percent.
Level 1 biometric systems can detect basic 2D fraud methods like indirect face captures from screens or printed images. In contrast, Viettel’s level 2 system is equipped to identify more sophisticated 3D fraud attempts, such as silicon masks and deepfake videos. This capability is crucial in managing fraud and credit risks effectively.
“Viettel is dedicated to advancing AI technologies to provide businesses and individuals with cutting-edge solutions, particularly in authentication and electronic customer identification services crucial for numerous digital applications,” said Nguyen Manh Quy, Director of Viettel AI.
Viettel’s eKYC system is integrated with Vietnam’s national citizen identity card database, facilitating swift and accurate electronic identification and authentication. The integration allows the system to access and verify biometric data directly against the national database, ensuring high accuracy and reducing the risk of fraud. By cross-referencing biometric information such as facial recognition data with the national records, Viettel eKYC can quickly authenticate users and detect any discrepancies.
The system supports various functions, including issuing digital signatures, signing electronic contracts, and enhancing facial security measures. Since its integration in 2020, Viettel eKYC has significantly reduced paperwork by over 80 percent and saved up to 70 percent of processing time, proving its efficiency in customer identification and authentication processes.
