VeriFLY Lets Users Upload Vaccine Credentials

Daon has updated its digital VeriFLY wallet to support vaccination records. In plain terms, that means that travelers can now use the VeriFLY app to prove that they have received a COVID-19 vaccine, without needing to carry a physical vaccination card.

To take advantage of the new option, people will first need to take photos of both sides of their vaccination card, and upload those photos to the VeriFLY app. After that, a team of trained professionals will review those images to make sure that the record is legitimate, and that it fulfills the COVID-19 travel requirements for the person’s final destination. That review process will be completed before the person arrives at the airport to enable an expedited screening process at check-in and security checkpoints. Daon also noted that its algorithms will become more accurate (and better at preventing fraud) as more cards get uploaded to the system.

The vaccination record utility will initially be offered to American Airlines passengers flying to El Salvador, Guatemala, and the Bahamas, though it will presumably be extended to other routes and airlines over time. VeriFLY will consolidate the vaccination record along with the rest of a person’s travel documents, including their passport and a COVID-19 test result.

VeriFLY debuted in November, and now has more than 800,000 active users after previously passing the 200,000 threshold in February. The service (minus the vaccination upload option) is currently available on all American Airlines flights to the US, and all British Airways flights to the US and the United Kingdom.
