Vanguard Biometrics has introduced LiveScanID, a fingerprint capture platform that combines guided operator workflows with cloud-based storage for identity-verification records and supporting documents.

The software is aimed at professional fingerprinting providers handling processes such as background checks, licensing and employment screening. Its interface gives operators visual instructions and immediate feedback as they capture fingerprints, with the company targeting training demands and errors that occur during an appointment.

LiveScanID also addresses the records that accompany a biometric submission. Providers may need to retain identity checks, acknowledgments, forms and other documentation, depending on the service and applicable requirements. The platform places those supporting records within a structured cloud system instead of leaving staff to manage separate storage practices.

Vanguard says the design is intended to reduce administrative work and make recordkeeping more consistent across operators. The company is also using feedback from fingerprinting businesses and their customers to prioritize changes to the interface and workflows.

Fingerprint capture is the front end of many identity processes: an operator must obtain a usable image before another system can compare it with an existing record or process it for a background check. Guidance during capture is intended to help staff address problems while the person is still present, rather than after a submission has been completed.

Suppliers are also changing the hardware available for enrollment. Lakota Software Solutions recently opened pre-orders for its Phantom F60 scanner, which it says supports native fingerprint capture on iPhone and iPad through USB-C. That product concerns the capture device and integration software, while LiveScanID focuses on the operator’s capture and recordkeeping workflow.

Operational requirements vary across fingerprint applications. Pakistan’s Punjab province, for example, recently added 100 biometric devices for identifying unclaimed bodies and missing people, where obtaining a usable print can require equipment different from that used for ordinary live enrollment.

Vanguard’s launch is directed at professional service providers managing routine identity-verification appointments. The company says it developed the platform by examining the sequence of tasks operators perform, the points where errors arise, and the documents they must maintain.

Operator feedback remains part of the product’s development process. Vanguard says it will use that input to revise capture guidance, simplify administrative steps and identify additional capabilities for the platform.
