“The signing of this agreement represents an excellent opportunity to reinforce our position within the sports events industry, working hand in hand with one of the biggest teams in Spanish football, and making clear that the application of our solutions improves the user experience in any industry – even in big sporting events.” – Javier Mira, CEO, FacePhi
FacePhi and the Valencia CF soccer club are deepening their partnership. The organizations have announced a new agreement through which the latter will act as “a global ambassador” for FacePhi’s technology.
It’s the latest sign of friendly ties between the firms after Valencia CF provided FacePhi an entryway into the sports sector last year, thanks to a project in which FacePhi’s biometric onboarding technology was used to enroll Valencia CF fans into an automated access control system that allowed them to get into the Valencia CF stadium using a QR code via the football club’s mobile app.
Going forward, Valencia CF could prove to be an important ally in helping to promote FacePhi’s biometric tech to a wider audience in the sporting world, with the organizations suggesting in a statement that the soccer organization will promote FacePhi tech at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, as well as more broadly.
In return, FacePhi has agreed to become a Valencia CF sponsor and a member of the VCF Business Club, the professional networking arm of the European football organization.
“Thanks to this collaboration with Valencia CF, our technology will be able to be present within any sporting entity worldwide, beyond the scope of Spanish football clubs,” explained FacePhi CEO Javier Mira. “The signing of this agreement represents an excellent opportunity to reinforce our position within the sports events industry, working hand in hand with one of the biggest teams in Spanish football, and making clear that the application of our solutions improves the user experience in any industry – even in big sporting events.”
A love of soccer appears to run deep for the Spain-based identity tech company. Shortly after announcing its partnership with Valencia CF last year, in the summer FacePhi revealed that its board chairman, Salvador Martí, was stepping down from his position to focus his energies on the growth of CF Intercity, a soccer team that he co-founded. Mira, who took Martí’s place on the board, commented at the time that Martí’s decision was “brave and understandable from the point of view of an engaged entrepreneur.”
The new Valencia CF agreement’s announcement comes soon after the news that SoYou, a financial services startup, had become the latest client to embrace FacePhi’s selfie-based onboarding solution.
