Unisys Provides Support Services for Vision-Box in Australia and New Zealand

Unisys Corporation is now providing technological support services for Vision-Box in New Zealand and Australia. The New Zealand contract covers Vision-Box’s 12 security gates at Auckland International Airport and was signed in the first quarter of 2021, while the Australia contract covers 93 biometric SmartGates in 10 airports spread across the country. The Australian contract is more recent, and was inked in the third quarter of last year.

According to the terms of the contract, Unisys will provide Vision-Box with Digital Workplace Solutions to help maintain Vision-Box’s gates and ensure that everything is running smoothly. Vision-Box cited Unisys’ logistics, parts management, and engineering capabilities as primary factors in its decision, noting that Unisys has prior experience working with biometric technology in airports and in border security situations.

Unisys has also established itself as one of the top digital workplace services providers in the Australian market. The company worked with IDEMIA to build a new Electronic Biometric Identification Services system for the Australian Department of Home Affairs back in 2020. Before that, the company outfitted the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads with facial recognition technology for its driver’s license program.

Vision-Box’s SmartGates in Australia were similarly delivered through a contract with the country’s Department of Home Affairs. The gates are able to scan passports, and can use facial recognition to match a traveler to the image associated with that document. In doing so, the solution reduces processing times and improves the flow of traffic at security checkpoints.

In the past, Unisys has encouraged the air cargo industry to adopt better security practices. The company has also teamed up with Inspire Health Alliance to release a COVID-19 immunity passport that is compatible with the Unisys Stealth(identity) platform.
