TypingDNA Unveils Free Developer Plan for Behavioral Biometrics Platform

TypingDNA is looking to encourage the adoption of typing biometrics with the debut of a free Developer plan. The new plan will make it easier to integrate typing biometrics into an existing system, especially since developers will be able to benefit from both an unlimited number of users and an unlimited number of API calls.

Typing biometrics is a form of behavioral biometrics that examines factors like typing style and typing speed to create a unique profile of each user. That profile can then be used to provide ongoing passive authentication and prevent fraud across multiple channels.

TypingDNA notes that most people (or at least most young people) prefer to communicate through text, citing a report from the American Psychological Association that found that 75 percent of those under 30 would rather send a text than talk over the phone. If that trend holds, it should only increase the appeal of typing security solutions moving forward.

TypingDNA released an updated version of its Authentication API in addition to its new Developer Plan. The /auto API replaces a multi-step authentication process with a simpler one-call solution with pre-configured settings that make the technology easier to deploy. The updated API uses the same engine and is just as accurate as previous versions of the platform.

“At a time when critical services have gone digital, integration costs and complexity shouldn’t stand in the way of protecting users,” said TypingDNA CEO Raul Popa. “Our simplified API and unlimited, free Developer plan address both of these potential barriers. Our goal with this release is to make typing biometrics accessible to all developers.”

TypingDNA previously offered a free three-month trial to educational institutions that needed a way to secure remote examinations. The technology was later integrated in to the observED proctoring app from Romania’s Tremend.

More recently, TypingDNA launched a hackathon that will hand out more than $10,000 in prizes to the solutions that make the best use of the company’s API. The winners of that competition will be announced on November 15.
