Ticketmaster Details Persona Selfie and ID Checks Across Ticketing Flows

Ticketmaster has updated its account-security guidance to describe Persona-powered selfie and identity document checks across sign-in, artist presales, ticket requests and reviews of suspicious accounts.

The requirements vary by transaction. A user prompted during sign-in must provide a live selfie and a photograph of a government-issued identity document, such as a driver’s license, state ID or passport. Persona compares the portrait on the document with the selfie and assesses whether the document is genuine.

Artist presale registrations and ticket requests most often require a selfie, though Ticketmaster can request an identity document in some cases. The account holder must complete the check, including when purchasing tickets for another person. Users under 18 must have a parent or legal guardian complete a requested verification on their behalf.

A failed or incomplete check can block the user from buying new tickets, joining a presale or submitting a ticket request. Accounts flagged for suspicious behavior can also receive an email verification link. Those reviews typically take five to seven days, and an expired link can leave an account permanently restricted from new purchases.

Ticketmaster says successful biometric verification data is retained for no more than 60 days. Data from unsuccessful checks may be kept for as long as three years for fraud prevention. Persona handles the identity workflow, while Ticketmaster determines when a user must complete it and how the result affects the account or transaction.

The checks target automated purchasing, scalping and account abuse by requiring proof that a request belongs to a real person. Other ticketing services are introducing related controls. South Korea’s Melon platform, for example, has adopted an Argos identity system to address ticket fraud.

The live-selfie requirement also places ticketing within a wider shift toward stronger remote identity checks. Providers are combining document validation, face comparison and deepfake detection in other high-risk account workflows as synthetic media makes conventional image checks easier to attack.

Ticketmaster recommends completing the Persona process on a mobile device and staying within one browser session. Users should ensure that the legal name on the Ticketmaster profile matches the identity document and that the device has camera permission before beginning.

For phone-number changes, the verification link is sent by email and the review is immediate. A successful result allows the old number to be removed, after which the user can add a replacement during the next sign-in.
