ARGOS Identity has partnered with Kakao Entertainment to deploy an AI-based identity verification system on the Melon Ticket platform, aiming to reduce ticket scalping and unauthorized resale in South Korea’s live entertainment market. The system integrates document authentication, facial recognition, and OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technologies to support a one-person-one-account policy and limit automated or proxy-based purchasing.
The identity verification process includes checks for identity forgery and spoofing attempts using passive liveness detection, ensuring that submitted IDs are tied to live users rather than bots or manipulated images. ARGOS’s system also incorporates proxy and VPN detection to help block automated scripts and macro tools frequently used by scalpers.
The deployment comes as South Korea implements stricter ticketing laws. Recent amendments to the Public Performance Act criminalize the use of bots and macros for ticket acquisition, introducing fines up to 10 million won and prison terms of up to one year. The integration of ARGOS’s solution aligns with these reforms and supports Melon Ticket’s efforts to ensure fair access to high-demand events.
According to ARGOS, the platform supports both domestic and international users. Foreign nationals who do not possess CI (Connecting Information) can verify their identity through a DI (Digital Identifier) generated from authenticated documents, allowing even short-term visitors to register and recover accounts if needed. The functionality is notable given the increasing number of foreign attendees at Korean concerts and events.
Beyond identity verification, the platform complies with international data protection and operational standards, including ISO27001 and ISO9001 certifications. ARGOS also supports KYC (Know Your Customer) and AML (Anti-Money Laundering) frameworks, reflecting the platform’s applicability to regulated environments beyond entertainment.
ARGOS’s solution supports identity document verification across over 210 countries, with OCR and expert review capabilities spanning more than 4,000 document types. The company’s verification services have been integrated in sectors including finance, Web3 platforms, and healthcare. Its implementation on Melon Ticket represents one of the more comprehensive applications of biometric and document verification in the live event ticketing space.
