Deel Acquires Clarity to Add Deepfake Detection Across Hiring and Workforce Identity

Global payroll and HR platform Deel has acquired Israeli deepfake-security startup Clarity, bringing its identity-verification technology and engineering team into a broader system for screening workers before and after hiring.

Clarity develops tools that detect manipulated faces, voices, identity documents and live video. Deel plans to apply those capabilities during remote interviews and onboarding, where employers face fraudulent candidates using synthetic identities or real-time face and voice conversion.

The planned workflow begins with biometric identity verification before a person is hired. It can then combine deepfake detection, background checks and behavioral signals during the recruitment process, followed by device provisioning and access controls after the worker joins an organization.

Deel operates payroll, HR, compliance and equipment services for more than 40,000 businesses across 150 countries. Integrating the acquired technology would let customers connect a verified applicant with the employee record, work device and access privileges managed through the same platform.

Clarity was founded in 2022 and had raised $16 million. The company’s technology has been used to analyze recorded and live media for signs of synthetic manipulation, including attacks designed to pass a remote interview while concealing the participant’s real appearance or voice.

Identity checks are becoming a standard feature in online recruitment systems. Employ recently added ID.me verification to its hiring platforms, allowing employers to require a government-ID and selfie check at selected stages of an application.

Glider AI has taken a similar approach for assessments and interviews. Its ID Verify product links biometric verification with candidate evaluations to help employers determine whether the same person remains present throughout the process.

Clarity’s team will join Deel and continue developing identity-security controls for the workforce platform. The acquisition is Deel’s fifteenth and its first involving an Israeli company. Deel plans to integrate the acquired technology across its hiring and workforce services.

The acquisition links media analysis with employment records rather than treating a suspicious interview as an isolated event. A verified identity can remain associated with later controls, helping an employer compare the person hired with the person receiving equipment, entering payroll details or requesting access throughout the employment relationship, until an account is closed or access is revoked.
