Telefónica will be working with IDEMIA to help market the latter’s MorphoWave biometric scanner. To that end, the Spanish telecom will be exhibiting the MorphoWave scanner at its Demonstration and Innovation Center at its Distrito Telefónica headquarters in Madrid.
Telefónica’s Demonstration and Innovation Center was set up to give shareholders, customers, and other interested parties the opportunity to sample the company’s latest technologies. The MorphoWave scanner will soon be offered to clients through Telefónica Tech’s Ingeniería de Seguridad (TIS) division, and will consequently be displayed alongside the rest of the Telefónica portfolio. The scanner will be available as an authentication option for organizations looking to install a modern Telefónica security system.
IDEMIA’s MorphoWave Compact is a touchless four-fingerprint 3D scanner that verifies someone’s identity as they wave their hand through the device. The solution is designed primarily for physical access control, enabling secure biometric authentication without forcing users to make contact with a shared fingerprint reader. The two companies are hoping that the solution will eliminate the need for traditional access cards, and meet the growing demand for hygienic access solutions in the midst of the pandemic.
“COVID-19 [has created] new requirements when it comes to accessing public or private spaces,” said IDEMIA Biometric Devices EVP Yves Portalier. “We are delighted to see Telefónica endorsing MorphoWave terminals within its premises and as a part of their business portfolio and expansion into the Spanish market thanks to Telefonica’s TIS division.”
“Our collaboration with IDEMIA allows us to continue advancing in the development of solutions in the security area,” added TIS Global Commercial Director Lorena Senador-Gómez. “We are delighted to add their MorphoWave technology to our innovation catalog to offer this new access control to our customers.”
IDEMIA previously outfitted Telefónica with digital subscription tech back in 2017, and has since provided digital onboarding technology for Telefónica’s Movistar Chile subsidiary. The company has deployed the MorphoWave scanner at its own local head offices in Tokyo, and now has more than 10,000 devices in circulation following recent placements at a Japanese soccer stadium and at a pair of office buildings in Australia.
