IDEMIA Tests MorphoWave Compact at Level5 Stadium in Japan

IDEMIA has conducted a successful test of its MorphoWave Compact biometric scanner. The test was carried out in collaboration with the Japan Aerospace Corporation (JAC) at the end of 2019, during the final match of the J2 League soccer season. The match was played at Level5 Stadium in Fukuoka, Japan.

The MorphoWave Compact is a contactless biometric scanner that is able to read four fingerprints when someone’s hand is waved in front of the device. During the final, the scanner was deployed to facilitate ticketless entry, and to verify the identities of customers at concession counters. Spectators needed to register in advance to take advantage of the biometric admissions system.

The test was carried out shortly after IDEMIA released an update that dramatically improved the MorphoWave’s matching speed and throughput capabilities. The upgraded device is able to scan 50 customers per minute. The initial MorphoWave Compact was unveiled in April 2018.

“Our goal is to enable frictionless access without compromising security,” said IDEMIA Japan Managing Director and Sales VP Nobuyoshi Nezu. “We are excited to partner with Japan Aerospace Corporation on this very promising case and look forward to a full rollout of our MorphoWave devices at Level5 Stadium.”

IDEMIA’s is the latest deployment in which biometrics are used to streamline the spectator experience at sports venues, with CLEAR having recently deployed a naked payments system at Citi Field in New York.
