“The technology offerings that TECH5 will demonstrate during the event fully meet the needs and requirements of the government and private sectors in Africa…” – Ameya Bhagwat, SVP of Sales, TECH5
TECH5 will unveil two new technological solutions at this week’s ID4Africa event in Nairobi, Kenya, the company has revealed.
The biometrics specialist hasn’t revealed any details about the new solutions, but planned comments from TECH5 co-founder, CTO, and Chairman Rahul Parthe may offer a hint. TECH5 says Parthe will discuss the need for a technological solution that can verify any person on the continent without the need for specialized hardware or an internet connect — something that TECH5 characterizes as “the missing link for inclusion”.
The new solutions will be showcased alongside TECH5’s already-announced offerings, including its contactless fingerprint capture system, T5-AirSnap Finger, and its T5-Digital ID solution for biometric onboarding and credential issuance, which supports both face and fingerprint biometrics.
“The technology offerings that TECH5 will demonstrate during the event fully meet the needs and requirements of the government and private sectors in Africa, allowing for online and completely offline biometric verification using just the camera of a mobile phone instead of costly purpose-built devices and enabling holders and verifiers without specific digital skills use the digital ID technology frictionlessly,” asserted TECH5’s SVP of Sales, Ameya Bhagwat, who added that TECH5’s digital IDs could be issued in an electronic format or on a printed credential as needed.
Even before its promise to unveil new technologies at ID4Africa, TECH5 was likely to be met with considerable interest at the event after its work on a digital student ID in the Democratic Republic of Congo in recent months. Leveraging T5-Cryptograph, the company’s solution generates a printed code based on a student’s encrypted face biometrics data, which can then be used in a digital ID.
The digital student ID was launched in a pilot program in Kinshasa toward the end of 2022, and proved successful. That led to an announcement from TECH5 and its domestic partner Sycamore that they would expand its available across the DRC.
TECH5’s are also notably compatible with the MOSIP Foundational Identity Platform, an open source identity platform that has been embraced by multiple governments on the continent. TECH5 demonstrated its digital ID technology in a MOSIP partner event prior to ID4Africa.
The company is showcasing its solutions from stand H2-25 at ID4Africa, which runs from May 23 to 25.
