TECH5, the Swiss-based biometric technology company, has been granted a U.S. patent for its next-generation digital ID verification system, marking a major step forward in privacy-preserving identity technology. The patented architecture enables real-time identity verification across multiple biometric modalities—facial, fingerprint, iris, palm, and voice recognition—without storing sensitive biometric data or requiring a centralized database or continuous internet access.
The system builds on TECH5’s expertise in multi-biometric capture and matching, offering offline functionality, high accuracy, and a decentralized, self-sovereign identity (SSI)-compatible design. It converts biometric data into ephemeral “bio-hashes” or cryptographic keys, rather than storing reusable templates – enabling secure authentication with strong protection against misuse or theft of personal information.
“We continue to innovate in the field of decentralized identity because we believe in building inclusive infrastructurethat empowers every individual to participate in the digital ecosystem in a secure and private manner,” said Rahul Parthe, Co-founder, Chairman, and CTO of TECH5, who has been a vocal proponent of decentralized identity frameworks. “There is still work to be done to create truly trustworthy digital IDs that are accessible to all. The method and system described in this patent bring us one step closer to that goal. This technology serves as a core building block for decentralized Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), where digital identity becomes the foundation of trust.”
The system incorporates T5-AirKey, a key component that transforms biometric data into cryptographic keys on the fly. These keys can be used for authentication or selective data disclosure, allowing users to prove specific attributes—like their age or name—without revealing their full identity. T5-AirKey is also designed with post-quantum cryptography in mind, offering future-proof protection for sensitive data.
Additional technologies supporting this architecture include T5-Cryptograph, which enables printed credentials that can be biometrically verified offline—critical for inclusion in regions where mobile devices are limited—and T5-AirSnap Finger, a patented contactless fingerprint capture solution that uses neural networks to generate high-resolution templates via mobile devices.
TECH5 has already deployed its technology in multiple high-impact initiatives. In Peru, the company partnered with the National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (RENIEC) to support national digital identity verification using its T5-OmniMatch ABIS platform. In Mauritania, TECH5 powers biometric eGovernment services, while in the Democratic Republic of Congo, its offline solutions are used to issue and verify student IDs in low-connectivity environments.
The company’s biometric engine complies with OSIA ITU standard APIs, ISO/IEC 30136 for biometric template protection, ICAO document specifications, and W3C verifiable credential frameworks. It also offers optional blockchain integration for immutable audit trails and tamper resistance in identity transactions.
As global demand rises for secure, decentralized digital identity systems that protect privacy and support financial inclusion, TECH5 is positioning itself as a foundational contributor to digital public infrastructure (DPI) efforts worldwide.
