TECH5 is pitching its biometric identity technology to governments that are looking to introduce National ID programs. To that end, the company has announced that its T5-IDencode digital identity solution is now fully compatible with MOSIP’s Foundational Identity Platform.
MOSIP is an open-source platform that provides interested governments with the technology needed to register and issue unique IDs to their citizens. T5-IDencode facilitates those efforts with biometric enrollment and deduplication, using TECH5’s highly rated face and fingerprint recognition algorithms. The integration of T5-IDencode with MOSIP will allow countries that want to adopt MOSIP to take full advantage of IDencode while doing so.
In that regard, T5-IDencode allows organizations to issue secure digital IDs that can be stored on a standard smartphone. (Organizations can also print physical versions of those same IDs). Those IDs draw on information stored in a National ID database, and contain a biometric credential that can be verified in both online and offline situations. As a result, the solution minimizes the need for specialized authentication hardware, and reduces management and technology costs for issuing and verification bodies.
T5-IDencode also gives individual civilians more control over their personal information, since they need to give their consent prior to any ID scan. The IDs can be presented as proof of identity in a wide variety of situations, and make it easier for people to gain access to state services like healthcare and education.
“Paperless secure credentialing and enablement of offline identity verification is a strong use-case to demonstrate, especially from the point of view of inclusion and privacy,” said MOSIP Implementations Head Krishnan Rajagopalan.
“We develop all of our technologies for identity management around the principles of ID4D and are very passionate about the MOSIP project,” added TECH5 Co-founder, Chairman, and CTO Rahul Parthe. “The TECH5 – MOSIP technical integration has enabled the creation of a unique solution that can be implemented for digital ID issuance around the world.”
TECH5 integrated its T5-ABIS solution with MOSIP back in 2019. That T5-ABIS was deployed in a MOSIP identity project in Guinea earlier this year, while the company’s T5-IDencode technology is already being deployed in a similar MOSIP project in Ethiopia.
