TECH5 to Show Off Digital ID Applications of Biometric Tech at ID4Africa

Amid bubbling interest in digital ID in Africa, TECH5 is looking to promote its MOSIP-compatible biometric identity solutions at this week’s ID4Africa 2022 trade show.

TECH5 announced that it had become the first ABIS vendor to integrate its solution with the MOSIP platform back in 2019. Developed by the International Institute of Information Technology in Bangalore (IIIT-B), MOSIP is an open-source platform designed to enable third party organizations to create and issue digital IDs for Identity and Access Management purposes.

At the time, TECH5 noted that its integration would enable enrollment and authentication through MOSIP systems via face, fingerprint, and iris recognition technologies. The company went on to announce that its T5-IDencode digital identity solution had been made fully compatible with MOSIP’s Foundational Identity Platform last year.

At ID4Africa, TECH5 will be demonstrating this compatibility from booth No. C06. In particular, they’ll be showcasing real-time biometric capture using face and fingerprint modalities, and the deduplication that this can enable using a MOSIP database. TECH5 representatives will also demonstrate the issuance of a unique digital credential stored in ‘T5-Cryptograph’, a digital container that can be send via email to its rightful owner, who can then access it using biometric authentication.

TECH5 will emphasize that its T5-Digital ID and its T5-ABIS BE solutions are both compatible with MOSIP. The former solution facilitates contactless biometric capture and digital ID issuance, while the latter is an automated biometric identification engine.

“The TECH5-MOSIP technical integration has enabled the creation of a unique solution that can be implemented for digital ID issuance around the world,” said TECH5 CTO, Chairman, and co-founder Rahul Parthe, adding later, “We believe that such a solution would help to boost inclusion across African countries, making digital IDs available for every citizen.”

TECH5 is no stranger to the continent. In partnership with TrueID, the company helped to enable South African companies to perform contactless fingerprint scans of their end users, a potentially impactful effort given the importance of fingerprint data in South Africa’s Home Affairs National Identification System (HANIS) database.

ID4Africa is slated to run from June 15 to 16 in Marrakesh. TECH5, as aforementioned, will demonstrate its solutions from booth C06, and the company says that no data gathered for demo purposes will be stored.
