Tech Mahindra will be assisting VSBLTY with the rollout of a massive smart retail network in Mexico and Latin America. VSBLTY signed an initial letter of intent with Grupo Modelo and Retailigent Media in December, before finalizing the agreement and moving forward with an official launch in March. The network will eventually reach more than 50,000 Modelorama stores and local bodegas, beginning with 5,000 installations before the end of the year.
As a digital transformation specialist, Tech Mahindra will help build the infrastructure needed to sustain the network, and then provide ongoing logistical support and network monitoring and management services. The company has signed a four-year agreement with VSBLTY, and will also assist with remote and onsite troubleshooting for the duration of the contract.
Each deployment will include video cameras and screens placed throughout the convenience store. The cameras will be used for security, and to generate actionable intelligence based on sales figures and customer demographics. That information can then be analyzed to improve retail performance and boost sales results.
The screens, meanwhile, will be used to reach out to customers with targeted advertisements.
“Once the international network is fully operational, consumer brands will be able to advertise to Latin American shoppers right at point-of-sale where buying decisions are made,” said VSBLTY Co-founder and CEO Jay Hutton. “Tech Mahindra gives us the scale and monitoring ability that will be key to the successful monetization of this network.”
“Now we can drive advertisers to this network with confidence that it will be robust, available and built using the best possible Intel technology,” added Retailigent CEO Rodrigo Valesco.
The smart retail network has already been set up at convenience stores in Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. VSBLTY’s technology has also turned up in a chain of pet stores and in an extensive surveillance network in Mexico City.
