VSBLTY and RADARApp Bring Smart City Surveillance to Benito Juarez

VSBLTY and RADARApp are extending their smart city surveillance network to the Benito Juarez borough of Mexico City. The network will pair intelligent cameras with motion sensors, alarms, and high intensity outdoor lighting, and is billed as the first such system to run on WiFi 6 technology.

The camera hardware will be installed at public locations throughout the city, and comes courtesy of Taiwan’s Ability Enterprise Co., which partnered with VSBLTY in February. The Ability cameras come preloaded with VSBLTY’s computer vision software that allows them to perform a number of different surveillance functions, ranging from license plate recognition to pedestrian tracking and dwell time measurement. In doing so, they provide law enforcement agencies with real-time crowd and traffic data that allows the police to respond to potential incidents in an appropriate fashion.

In that regard, the system can be configured to issue an alert whenever it spots specific activities or events. The technology can also determine the size and classification of cars, bicycles, and other vehicles. The various interested parties are hoping that the system will help prevent crime and optimize traffic operations in the borough.

“We are providing a situational awareness dashboard with comprehensive alerting functionality, making instant analysis available to residents and law enforcement on a phone application,” said RADARApp CEO Rodrigo Calderon.

“The RADARApp network is providing even more valuable and usable data than we imagined, which is helping mitigate crime,” added Benito Juarez Mayor Santiago Taboada Cortina. “We have evolved from a reactionary policy to crime to a more proactive and real time preventative security strategy.”

Intel and Sky Packets are VSBLTY’s other collaborators on the Benito Juarez project. Sky Packets is best known for developing WiFi Mesh networks and Smart City applications.

The news strengthens VSBLTY’s presence in the Mexican market. The company has been in Mexico City since 2019, when it started installing smart city surveillance equipment in collaboration with Energetika. VSBLTY’s smart retail tech has also been deployed in pet stores and convenience stores all over the country.
