It’s been another varied week in biometrics news, but the latest roundup of FindBiometrics’ most popular stories does have one fairly consistent theme – it’s dominated by tech giants.
One of them is Apple. This week brought yet more speculation that Apple may be planning the return of its pioneering Touch ID fingerprint scanning system, this time on the anticipated iPhone SE2:

FindBiometrics readers also showed a sustained interest this week in the news that Apple has joined the FIDO Alliance. Apple is one of the biggest companies in consumer tech, and FIDO is the biggest cross-industry alliance focused on promoting multi-factor authentication, so this could turn out to be a significant development in promoting stronger digital security:

Meanwhile, FindBiometrics visitors also proved to be interested in hearing from an executive with one of the largest companies in the digital security space – IDEMIA. The firm’s SVP of Civil Identity for North America, Matt Thompson, dropped in on the latest ID Talk Podcast:

And the third tech giant of this week’s top stories roundup is Thales, which got some attention this week with its launch of new passwordless authentication solutions for Microsoft Azure AD:

Finally, the last entry in our top stories roundup decidedly lacks any tech giants – or any tech companies at all. It’s about UCLA’s decision to back away from plans to deploy a facial recognition system on campus:
