Slovakia’s Tatra Banka is now offering a pioneering biometric onboarding service co-developed by Innovatrics to third party partners.
Part of the Raiffeisen Bank International Group, Tatra Banka first teamed up with its compatriot Innovatrics in 2018. The latter worked with integration partner Softec to deliver a selfie-based customer verification system that used facial recognition to match an end user to their identity document — a trailblazing approach to remote customer verification in 2018 that has now become mainstream.
In addition to its biometric matching system, the solution is also capable of checking individuals against a Ministry of Interior database, and Tatra Banka is now working on adding passports to the system’s supported IDs.
The system’s foundation was Innovatrics’ Digital Onboarding Toolkit, which went on to see growing adoption as the selfie onboarding trend continued to grow in popularity over the last several years. Now, Tatra itself is offering the onboarding solution as a service, through the bank’s API.
“As soon as we started offering banking verification in 2018, our company clients have expressed a wish to also use the technology,” explained Tatra Banka Product Manager Lukas Rubar.
Meanwhile, Innovatrics continues to push forward its technological innovation. The company announced a “semi-passive” liveness detection system for iris recognition earlier this year, and went on to nab the top ranking for accuracy in single-eye iris recognition in the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s ongoing Iris Exchange (“IREX”) evaluation program.
