Survey Shows Mexico City Residents Feel Safer With VSBLTY Surveillance Tech

VSBLTY is boasting about the success of its smart city surveillance program in Mexico City. The company’s computer vision technology was installed in cameras in the Benito Juarez borough of Mexico City in February of 2020, where it is paired with RADARApp technology to notify law enforcement and local residents about safety issues in the area.

Now VSBLTY is reporting that its surveillance system is making the people of Benito Juarez feel safer in their own community. The news come courtesy of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), which conducts quarterly surveys of the Mexican public. The latest survey revealed that 78.2 percent of Benito Juarez residents now feel safe in their neighborhoods, a number that is up dramatically from the 51 percent who felt safe in March of 2020, just as the system was being installed.

The results make Benito Juarez the safest county in Mexico City, and the second safest in the country as a whole. People’s feeling of security has increased steadily since the system was installed, hitting 60.7 percent in September of 2020 and continuing on that upward trajectory throughout 2021. The rate stood at 67.8 percent in June.

Other counties are planning to implement their own surveillance systems based on the success of the Benito Juarez program. That success has also been good for VSBLTY’s bottom line, since the company has received more than $2 million in warrant exercise proceeds since the beginning of September. The company’s stock price has been rising (at the time of writing), and it is now carrying less than $500,000 in convertible debt.

“The RADARApp network is providing even more valuable and usable data than we imagined, which is helping mitigate crime,” said Benito Juarez Mayor Santiago Taboada Cortina. “We have evolved from a reactionary policy to crime to a new, more proactive and real time preventative security strategy.”

“We are extremely pleased to see validation of how our technology has helped citizens feel safer in their communities,” added VSBLTY Co-founder and CEO Jay Hutton.

VSBLTY’s technology has produced similar results in a separate deployment in Mexico City’s Cuajimalpa County. That deployment began in 2019, and was carried out in collaboration with Energetika. VSBLTY’s smart retail tech is also being used in Mexican convenience stores.
