South Korean biometric security specialist Suprema, Inc. has announced that it has added biometric authentication to its newly launched X-Station 2 access control terminal.
The upgraded version of the X-Station 2 is now able to support fingerprint authentication via new modules in addition to its existing support for mobile access cards, RFID cards, QR codes, and barcodes.
“With COVID-19 increasing the demand for smartphone-based, non-face-to-face solutions, we received good reviews following the original launch of our X-Station 2 mobile access authentication terminal,” commented Suprema CEO Hanchul Kim. “The newly launched X-Station 2 fingerprint model diversifies contactless authentication options to customers who use existing biometric information. They can now enjoy the same level of security performance while offering users the convenience and peace of mind that mobile access brings.”
The X-Station 2 — introduced in May of 2021 — was designed to provide venue operators with a more flexible approach to their access control setups. This flexibility has been further enhanced now that the terminals feature support for an increasingly popular biometric authentication modality.
Among the main features of Suprema’s terminal is the use of an built-in camera for fraud prevention via user photo authentication. The devices feature a 4-inch touch screen panel, and are capable of storing and processing as many as 500,000 users.
The X-Station 2 also features compatibility with iOS and Android phones, using NFC and Bluetooth technologies to communicate with mobile devices running these operating systems.
“X-Station 2 is a versatile terminal that can be installed in any facilities with time and attendance, visitor management and access control needs,” said Suprema CEO Hanchul Kim. “Its mobile credential options can also satisfy contactless and non-face-to-face needs.”
This past summer, Suprema showcased the X-Station 2 at ISC West in Las Vegas, alongside its contactless offerings such as the BioStar 2 solution and its FaceStation F2 terminals equipped with facial recognition.
