Another Suprema product has passed a major certification milestone. More specifically, the company’s CoreStation access control panel has now received formal UL 294 approval.
CoreStation is designed to support Suprema’s BioStar 2 access control software, which has already achieved ISO 27001 and ISO 27701 certification. The ISO certifications were handed out in December of 2020, and indicate that BioStar 2 is compliant with the European Union’s latest GDPR data privacy regulations.
The new UL 294 evaluation, meanwhile, should complement those earlier certifications. The standard is a measure of safety and reliability that attests to the solution’s ability to perform well while still protecting the information in the system.
The CoreStation platform also features an XPass D2 RFID card reader that obtained SIA Open Supervised Device Protocol (OSDP) certification in 2021. The Security Industry Association established the SIA OSDP standard in 2020 in an effort to promote device interoperability in access control. The certification indicates that the XPass D2 reader should work well with security products from other developers, even though the line was originally developed for use in the CoreStation platform. SIA OSDP verification also attests to a device’s security capabilities, and affirms that its AES-128 encryption is strong enough for sensitive government applications.
“Suprema takes the lead in the protection and safe use of biometric data, including facial and fingerprint information,” said Suprema CEO Hanchul Kim. “Suprema will continuously expand our investment in data protection by acquiring certifications to comply with the different regulations on a regional basis, so people can enjoy the convenience and safety that biometric technology provides.”
According to Suprema, the technology that underscores its security certifications will help mitigate the threat of data breaches and close other security vulnerabilities. Suprema has made contactless access control a key area of focus for the company moving into 2022.
