Sumsub Joins idOS Consortium to Advance Reusable Identity for Web3

Sumsub has joined the idOS Consortium, taking a governance role in an effort to let identity checks be reused across decentralized services rather than repeated each time a user signs up for a new crypto or Web3 application.

The compliance and fraud-prevention firm said it made a contribution to become a member of the idOS Association’s governance committee, building on work the two have already done together in production for several months. idOS is a provider-agnostic identity infrastructure layer that integrates with a range of verification providers, and Sumsub will contribute to its open-source technology stack alongside other consortium members.

The move extends Sumsub’s broader work on reusable identity across both conventional and on-chain systems. Over the past year, the company has rolled out on-chain attestation integrations on Solana, through the Solana Attestation Service, and on Linea, through the Verax attestation protocol, and more recently added support for Chainlink’s ACE cross-chain identity framework. Joining the consortium moves that work into the governance layer of decentralized identity infrastructure.

Sumsub frames repeated identity checks as a growing bottleneck as on-chain finance expands, particularly for users onboarding into multiple regulated services inside a single application, such as crypto wallets that combine on-ramps, bank accounts, and other financial features. Reusable identity, it says, lets users verify once and reuse that verification across services, cutting onboarding friction for users and acquisition costs for businesses.

“We’ve spent the past year proving that verified identity can travel with the user instead of being re-collected at every door, both off-chain and on-chain,” said Ilya Brovin, chief growth officer at Sumsub. “Joining forces with idOS lets us go further in this journey, setting up re-usability rails that match the compliance and privacy needs of web3’s largest regulated players.”

The step builds on Sumsub’s earlier reusable-identity work, after it launched reusable digital ID verification on the Solana blockchain and brought its Reusable KYC capability to a stablecoin payments onboarding partnership with Reap.
