Sumsub has integrated its reusable digital identity product, Sumsub ID, with the Solana Attestation Service (SAS), enabling on-chain identity attestations within the Solana blockchain ecosystem. The integration was publicly demonstrated at the Solana Accelerate event in New York in May 2025, marking the first use of Sumsub ID in a Web3 environment.
Streamlining Identity in a Decentralized World
The collaboration builds on Sumsub’s March 2025 launch of its Reusable Digital Identity suite, a system designed to reduce friction in digital onboarding and compliance. The suite allows users to complete Know Your Customer (KYC) verification once and then reuse the verified credentials across multiple platforms. Through the new integration with Solana, users can create a Sumsub ID after pre-verification, link it to a self-hosted Solana wallet, and receive a blockchain-based attestation tied to that wallet.
This attestation can be used to verify identity across participating decentralized applications (dApps) in the Solana ecosystem, helping to eliminate repeated identity checks. Because the attestation confirms verification without disclosing sensitive personal data, it supports both user privacy and regulatory compliance.
How the Integration Works
The Solana Attestation Service is an open, permissionless protocol for issuing verifiable credentials. It enables trusted third parties like Sumsub to associate off-chain information with a user’s on-chain wallet address. These attestations are accessible to dApps that require user verification, but the underlying personal data remains protected and is never published to the blockchain.
The integration was showcased through a live demonstration involving Roam, a virtual SIM provider. Users completed identity verification with Sumsub, linked the verified identity to their Solana wallet, and then used the resulting attestation for immediate onboarding with Roam’s service. This illustrated how reusable identity credentials can improve user experience in decentralized service environments.
Digital Identity on Web3
Web3 refers to the next generation of the internet built on blockchain technologies. Unlike traditional platforms where identity and data are centrally controlled, Web3 emphasizes decentralization, allowing users to manage their own digital identity through wallets and verifiable credentials. In this space, digital identity is managed through standards such as decentralized identifiers (DIDs), with users proving who they are without exposing unnecessary personal data.
Reusable digital IDs like Sumsub ID allow individuals to verify themselves once and use that verified status across many applications. This reduces the need for repeated document submissions, cuts down onboarding time, and enhances privacy protections. These capabilities are increasingly important as blockchain technology is more deeply integrated with identity verification across financial services, gaming, telecommunications, and beyond.
The Sumsub-Solana integration aims to provide a scalable and privacy-preserving solution to identity verification in the Web3 space. It also reflects growing industry efforts to meet regulatory requirements while empowering users to control their digital identities across decentralized platforms.
